Reps commended for reclaiming UATH trauma centre from public private partnership
The Chief Medical Director (CMD), University of Abuja Teaching Hospital UATH Gwagwalada, Professor Bissala Ekele has lauded the ressolution of Nigeria House of Representatives that reversed the Trauma Centre built by the Hospital from Private Public Partnership PPP arrangement.
Professor Bissala expressed his elation during the oversight functions of the House of Representatives Committee on Health to the Hospital in Gwagwalada.
He says the singular decision of the Green Chamber had attracted harvest of favour towards the hospital in the last one year.
“We are happy that the decision of the House and the intervention of Board of Management of the Hospital led by Dr Sam Jaja has yielded positive development.”
“The Hospital has put into optimum use the first and the second floors of the Trauma Centre,while the ground floor is still being discussed for possible occupation by the hospital.
“We have been able to utilize the appropriated and donated medical equipment from well meaning Nigerians, corporate bodies and government agencies to make the two floors functional.
“We have the Opthalmology, Burns and Plastics, Intensive Care Unit, Cardiology units in both the first and second floor of the centre, including furnished accommodation of 15 rooms for the frontline health workers attached to the isolation centre of COVID-19 pandemic ward”, he said.
Professor Bissala further said the decision was a true reflection of the lower House as Representatives of the entire Nigerians.
Responding, Chairman House Committee on Health, Dr chigozie Obi says there was no way the decision of the previous management of the Hospital could stand the test of time, in view of the significance of Health sector and the growing demands for a quality and accessible health care services required by Nigerians.
He congratulated the Management and Board of the Hospital for quick action that led to the utilisation of the centre.
The Chairman and members of the House Committee on Health expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Chief Medical Director CMD, Professor Bissala Ekele.
