Fulani herders on Monday last week killed a farmer and injured one at Bagana in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The farmer who was identified as Monday Hassan Ikoja died on the spot after he was shot by the herders, while his colleague whose name could not be confirmed as at the time of this report escaped with gun shot wounds.

Two of them were attacked by Fulani herders while they were on their way to the farm.

According to the one who survived the attack and being treated at a hospital in Abejukolo, headquarters of Omala Local Government Area, he said the herders opened fire on them while on their way to the farm.

He said: “We are two while the Fulani were about five, all with AK47 rifles.

“Initially we thought they are hunters because they were not with cows and having sighted them, they knew we have started contemplating of running and before we know it, they opened fire.

“I didn’t know Monday died on the spot. As I escaped, I also thought he escaped through another route. I didn’t know he died”, he lamented.

The three local governments of Omala, Dekina and Bassa have been hotspots to Fulani herders’ attack with killing of farmers all the time.
