Herders attack: Ekiti PDP tells Fayemi to fish out killers of farmers
Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has been told by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State to compel herdsmen’s leaders to produce farmers’ killers.
Suspected Fulani herdsmen on Friday killed two farmers, Mr Toying Akeju also known as Jisoro and Mr Yusufu Onuche whose corps were recovered on Saturday.
The farmers were killed in Isaba Ekiti in the Ikole Council area of Ekiti State.
The opposition party accused the State governor of treating incessant killings by Fulani herders in Ekiti State with kid gloves, noting that he should stop shedding crocodile tears and act.
In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju, titled, ‘Stop playing politics with lives of Ekiti people, be proactive against herdsmen, PDP tells Fayemi’, said, “The governor must stop shedding crocodile tears and acting political correctness on the killings in the state.
“It is important that leaders of Fulani herders in the state are summoned by the government and handed a marching order to produce killers of those persons in Isaba Ekiti because they cannot claim not to know the killers among their people.
“The governor has to engage leaders of the Fulanis as done by his predecessor, Ayo Fayose, when he was governor so that they can join hands with government to flush out criminal elements among them. The killing by herders must stop now and Governor Fayemi must act with sincerity of purpose.”
Reacting to the killing to the killing, Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, vowed to fish out killers of farmers.
He said: “We will get to the bottom of this sad occurrence and bring all the criminals involved to book.”
The governor spoke at Isaba Ekiti during his condolence visits to the community and families of the bereaved, adding, “This is one killing too many and we must do all we can to protect all citizens. May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
The dead bodies of the two farmers who were shot dead in the farm at Isaba Ekiti on Friday were recovered on Saturday morning following which angry residents took to the streets to protest the killing.
The state government, in a statement by the Information Commissioner, Akin Omole, titled, ‘Killing of two farmers in Isaba Ekiti’, said, “We empathise with the Asaba of Isaba-Ekiti, Oba Olanrewaju Adeyanju, the families of our slain kinsmen and the entire people of Isaba-Ekiti on this tragic occurrence, which has understandably led to demonstrations in protest of the killings.”
