Students body calls for Gumi’s arrest, says Islamic Cleric setting nation on fire
Bandits negotiator and popular Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi has been called to be arrested over inflammatory comments against Soldiers of Christian faiths on the battle field.
National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC), in a statement said, the Islamic scholar from all indications is promoting banditry in the country.
The Student union wondered why Sheikh Gumi has not been arrested and treated like a criminal for his support for armed bandits who have been kidnapping and terrorising the country which they insisted was obvious.
The statement which was signed by the NANS Chairman, Kehinde Damilola Simeon, accused Gumi of justifying armed bandits and other associated criminality ravaging the Northern parts of the country.
The body expressed concern over Gumi’s claims that non-Muslim soldiers had carried out orchestrated killings in some communities, precipitating anger but, NANS has described Gumi’s claims as baseless and falsehood.
The group said the Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, who has been meeting with bandits in the forests of Kaduna, Zamfara, Katsina and Niger states know what the criminals are doing.
NANS maintained that if Gumi was not arrested, bandits could be emboldened to carry out their dastardly activities.
