Scarcity of beef may hit Southern part of Nigeria, if the Fulani Socio-cultural group’s threat to stop supply of cows to the Southern part of Nigeria was anything to go by, over eviction notice issued against their members.

Bauchi State branch of
the Miyyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, said, they have no choice than to stop its members from supplying cows to the Southern part of the country.

Addressing a press conference in Bauchi State on Tuesday, State Chairman of the Association, Abubakar Sadiq, alledged that Fulani herdsmen were subjected to various forms of ridicule and rejection across the country.

He alledged that Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom championed the persecution and hatred against Fulani herders when he initiated “unpopular law against open grazing in the state.”

According to him, Ortom’s anti open grazing law didn’t succeed, but ended in creating problems for Fulani herders.

He insisted that Nigerians have migratory right to any part of the country in pursuit of their legitimate business.

Reacting to a statement alledgedly made by Governor Samuel Ortom that “Fulani are criminals”, MACBAN threatened to go to court, if the governor fails to retract the statement.

They further told Ortom to withdraw the statement he allegedly made that Bauchi state governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir is a terrorist for defending the fulani tribe.

“People must be fair to the Fulani; they should not be branded as criminals. Government at all levels should create a conducive atmosphere for them and others to do their vocation of rearing cattle without molestation. We are all Nigerians and must be treated,” the group said.
