Senate tasks Nigerian Law Reform Commissioner nominee to eliminate obsolete part of nation’s law

The Senate on Thursday asked the Commissioner nominee of Nigerian Law Reform (NLR), Prof. Chukwu Larry to eliminate obsolete part in the nation’s in order to strengthen the nation’s judicial process.

Senate through its Chairman on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters. Senator Opeyemi Bamidele made this known while the Professor of Law appeared before the Committee for screening.

The Committee Chairman implored the nominee to bring his antecedent as an activist and as scholar to bear.

“You should ensure that obsolete part of our law should be reformed, the basic good governance is good law.

Most of the Senators present at the screening exercise endorsed the nomination of Prof. Larry Chukwu.

Speaking with newsmen after the screening, when asked about which areas of nation’s law needs urgent reform, the South East nominee said, “that there is to amend the Land Use Act because there are many things that has gone wrong with existing law.

The Professor of Law called for the creation of State police, if the country intended to practice true federalism demanding autonomy for each region in the country where each region will control its resources.

Speaking on his efforts in academic field, he said he has written is all about the reform of the law to meet up with current challenges.
