OccupyLekki: Tension in Lagos as group vows to resist fresh protest
New Lagosians, a socio-political group has warned miscreants threatening to take laws into their hands by an exercise called ‘OccupyLekki’ to create uneasy calm in Lagos, saying they are ready to resist them.
This was made known by the Protem Chairman, Ekundayo Ibironke that the legal backing of the State government to reopen Lekki tolls followed the laid down procedures.
He says, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu does not believe in taking law into his hands, by seeking for legal interpretation and intervention before returning to business at the Lekki toll gate.
He regretted the revenue loss to the State government running into billions of naira in the last few months of the closure of the gigantic Lekki tolls.
‘We are not unaware that the internally generated revenue, IGR of the State, is the driving force being deployed by the State government to address the unending socio-economic and infrastructural development of the State.
‘Those creating uneasy calm to clampdown on innocent citizens going about their lawful activities to give room for massive lootings, will on the long run complain of infrastructural gap’
‘The burning down of BRT buses and other public utilities belonging to the State government had brought about untold hardships to ordinary Lagosians.’
‘It is not the intention of the present administration to fish out the culprits of the last unfortunate incidence, but any attempt for a reocurrence, may not be taken lightly by the Lagos State Government.’
He urged the teeming Lagosians not to be perturbed about the threat of protest, and advise them to go about their lawful activities in the State.
