Angry mob set hotel on fire as sex worker kills customer in Owerri
Owerri, Imo State capital was on Thursday thrown into chaos following the setting on fire a hotel by angry mob after a commercial sex worker reportedly stabbed a customer to death.
The man was killed by the prostitute after having rounds of sex, which he couldn’t pay.
After the news filtered in that the man had been killed, mob mobilised themselves and set the building ablaze before security agents could arrive the scene.
Sources said, the agreed amount per sex became the bone of contention and the commercial sex worker was enraged to the point of stabbing the man to death.
A source said, “A prostitute killed his male friend because he was unable to pay him after marathon sex. This is what happened.”
Reports said, Owerri which was a beehive of activities was grounded with residents scampering for safety.
Military officers believed to have been deployed from the 34 artillery Brigade, Obinze, Owerri took over the scene and some strategic places hours after their arrival to forestall any possible breakdown of law and order.
When contacted, the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Owerri West Local Government Area of the state, Chief Okechukwu Enyioha, said that security men had taken over the scene.
While confirming the incident, the council boss said, ” Yes, I have been briefed and security men have taken over the scene of the incident. The security agencies are working hard and the law is being enforced.”
According to him, he had activated the security apparatus in the LGA to ensure that the incident did not degenerate.
When contacted, the Police Spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident and promised to brief journalists at a later time.
