Worried by incessant strikes by medical doctors in Nasarawa hospitals who are mostly non indigenes, stakeholders on Tuesday at a meeting in Lafia canvassed for training of indigenous medical doctors to solve the problem.

The stakeholders urged governor Abdullahi Sule to brace up in planning how to suponsor indigenes of the State to read medicine in various tertiary institution across the globe, saying this would mitigate difficulties often faced by the State.

Speaking to our correspondent on a threat by ARD, of plans to commence industrial action in Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, DASH, Mallam Adamu Aura has described the decision as uncalled for at this time of second wave of COVID19 pandemic.

“To be kind with you this attitude is coming because 85 to 90 percent of, ARD members are not indigenes of the State based on this reason, they don’t care about our people. He complained.

Mallam Auta who called on government said, as a matter of public interest should borrow leave from what Kano State government did when non-indigent doctors working in their payroll pushed them to the wall.

“Now as I speak to you Kano State have the highest number of doctors in the country and the issue of Doctors strike action has become a thing of the past.

“Look the way and manner our government is investing heavily on health sector, yet some group are out to sabotage this effort and some of us cannot keep our fingers crossed because posterity will definitely judge us if keep mute on the issue.

Mallam Auta continued that even though training of indigenous student to study medicine is a long time investment and capital intensive, yet government has to do something in order to train its own people for better tomorrow.

The Associations are taking advantage of few number of doctors who indigenous to frustrate and even jeopardise human lives.

“It is on record that, Doctors working in, DASH have gone or threatened to go on strike more than 10 times in the last 2years which government needed to do extra homework to arrest this trend before it gets out of hands.

It would be recalled that the management of the hospital had since mapped out strategies to avoid unnecessary strike action by unions and associations in their payroll through round table negotiations.
