Kogi United FC players protests unpaid two year sign-on fee in Lugard House, Lokoja

There was peaceful and mild protests by Kogi State owned football players at the Government house (Lugard House), Lokoja to press home the demand for their unpaid sign-on-fees for two years.

The players who have been keeping mute could no longer endure hardship occasioned by the lack of payment of their entitlements and took protests to the Government House on Thursday where they lodged a formal complaint.

The players who were dressed in their formal jersey initially blocked entrance to Lugard House and threatened to stay put until their entitlement was paid.

Surprisingly, security operatives at the gate were not hostile to them, according to the source that spoke with CAPITAL POST late Thursday in Lokoja.

The players threatened to boycott their 2020/21 Nigeria National League.matches of their entitlements were not paid before that time.

“We want to be paid our two years sign-on-fees as we have people that looks up to us for survival,” said one of the angry players.
“They promised to pay our entitlements but it did not happen.”

“We are tired of empty promises from Kogi State Government. We don’t think playing league games will be a good option for us.”
The players also claimed that increment in salaries, which was promised by the State Government, is yet to be activated.

CAPITAL POST earlier in the week reports that the neighbouring Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule has purchased and handed over two long buses to the two State Clubs, Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazon.

At the handing over ceremony, the governor expressed optimism that the kind gesture would boost the morale of the players.
