Unknown gunmen kills businessman after passing night at girlfriend’s house in Kogi

Anyigba based timber contractor, in Kogi East Senatorial district, Mr. Ogwu Salihu was killed in the early hours of Wednesday after he passed a night at his alledged female friend’s house.

A source who craved anonymity told CAPITAL POST that the deceased, a popular businessman who trades in timber went to the woman’s house late Tuesday night and was waylaid by a yet-to-be identified gunmen who shot and killed him early Wednesday while on his way back.

The deceased’s woman friend, identified as Safiya was a divorcee who had four children for her former husband (name witheld).

Source said, Safiya’s relationship with her former husband became estranged after the deceased timber businessman who was fairly doing well developed his own relationship with the woman then. The development which was considered an aberration by those close to the late businessman urged him to stop, but wouldn’t listen.

The controversy degenerated to a divorce at the instance of Safiya despite having four children.

Anyigba community and timber traders were thrown into mourning immediately the news filtered in.

When contacted for his reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer, Kogi State Command, William Aya promised to confirm and get back to our correspondent, but the Chairman of Dekina Local Government, Prince Ishaq Shaibu, vows to collaborate with Dekina Divisional Police Officer to bring perpetrators to book.

Assasinations have become an menace in Anyigba of late with Ogwu as the third person to be killed by gun men in four months.
