COVID-19, paucity of funds forced postponement of LG election in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC has announced the postponement of Local Government election earlier slated for 27th February, 2020.

The State electoral body Chairman, Barrister, Ayuba Usman Wandai while meeting with the state leadership of Inter-party Advisory Council today in Lafia, said, the LG election will no longer hold.as earlier planned.

He further explained that council’s election may hold between, April or May 2021.

According to him, the reason behind the postponement is not far from second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, logistics and administrative challenges. He said.

Responding, State Chairman of Inter-party Advisory Council,.Cletus Ogah appreciated NASIEC boss for the steps taken, but insisted that the Council will not accept Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the LGs in the state.

CAPITAL POST reports that Nasarawa State government has earlier earmarked N600 million for the election that would have taken place on 27th February, 2021.
