A northern youth group, Coalition of Arewa Youth Forum has faulted the Minister of Transportation and former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi for describing the ongoing Federal government’s investment in Nigerian River Ports as waste of resources.

The group urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Minister immediately, saying such comment was a sabotage of the nation’s economy.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday, which was signed by the National Coordinator of the Coalition, Alhaji Nuhu Sani Lere, he lamented that it’s uncalled for the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amechi to appear on NTA programme and say the Federal Government’s efforts to provide four river ports in the country as waste of funds.

The statement said, inference from the Minister’s comment showed he didn’t believe in diversification of the economy which the present administration was doing, hence, he has no business being part of the Federal Executive Council.

The statement said President Buhari’s effort at moving the nation from mono-economy to multiple sources of revenue should be applauded rather than been sabotaged.

“It’s disheartening for the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amechi to say Nigerians produces nothing on programme where people can view worldwide.

“Nigerians want Baro Port and I constructed it for them that’s all.” The group quoted Amaechi.

“The Minister is practically discouraging the efforts of the Federal Government on Sea Ports comparing it with train transportation which according to him is faster and more secured,” the group further said.

The National Coordinator, Alhaji Nuhu Sani Lere lamented that Mr. Rotimi Amechi does not in anyway deserve to serve a day as a minister of transportation because of his incompetence in managing huge economic potentials in the transport sector.

According to him, Amaechi is jeopardising Nigeria’s economy and the comment is one of his many betrayals of government, he is serving even as a two term Minister.
