As reactions continue to trail the former Presidential candidate, Omoleye Sowore’s arrest in Abuja on Friday, Senator Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial district in the 8th National Assembly, said, the arrest would damage the nation’s image.

Reacting through his verified Twitter handle, the former lawmaker and Civil Rights activist expressed shock at the development, maintaining that it was unhelpful arresting a citizen while protesting peacefully against issues that were obvious.

He was further saddened at the manner, Sowore was manhandled, reminding the Federal Government that Nigeria was practising Constitutional democracy.

He wrote:

“The case of @YeleSowore; it’s unhelpful to the nation’s image and its constitutional democracy when peaceful protesters are treated in the most cruel and uncivilized manner by the state apparatuses.

“The new year’s door is opened with a hammer instead of the key,” Sani tweeted.

Sowore was arrested alongside other activists during a protest against the Nigerian government in the early hours of Friday.

The protest was organized in Abuja.

According to Sahara Reporters, police officers attacked and arrested the protesters during a peaceful procession to mark the New Year in Abuja.

Meanwhile CAPITAL POST further learnt that killings, kidnappings and all forms of insecurity in the nation forced the former presidential candidate to the street on new year day asking the Federal Government to stop.
