2027: Coalition warns against campaign of calumny in Akwa Ibom
Ahead of 2027 general election, the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Nigeria (CCSON) has warned against campaign of calumny, thereby causing political tension in Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking at a press conference in Uyo on Thursday, the coalition noted that some key political leaders in Akwa Ibom are being smeared in guise of politics, a development that could derail governance and cause unnecessary unrest.
The National Coordinator of of the CCSON, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, condemned the attacks on Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and his predecessor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel by some political elements who might have been hired by their masters to do a hatchet job.
The attack on Governor Umo and the immediate past governor is counter productive and capable of distracting the government from delivering on its mandate of good governance and sustainable development.
“CCSON calls for an immediate cessation of these deleterious activities against Governor Umo Eno and former Governor Udom Emmanuel, which have saturated the social media space and are creating unnecessary tension in the polity.” Isong said,
He said the players of politics should prioritise general interest rather than narrow interest at this time in Akwa State, further condemning premature political activities not only in Akwa Ibom, but across the the country.
The group commended Governor Umo Eno for his commitment to the development of Akwa Ibom State and his exceptional leadership despite attempt to distract him.
They furthermore, commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for the bold step in granting financial autonomy to the Local Government Councils in Nigeria which funds would be allocated directly to their accounts from this month.
On national issues, the coalition called quick resolution of
political conflict in Rivers State, the oil spill in Bukuma waterways, and the urgent need for the dualization of federal highways in the South-South region.
