As the agitations for which of zones will succeed President Muhammad Buhari once he completes his tenure as president of Nigeria in 2023 and supposedly that of the north west rages, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kolawole Lawal who represents Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency of Ogun State joined the league of those clamoring for power shift to the south west.

Change of Name

Hon. Lawal says as an indigene of the south west, he supports the shift of power to the zone.

“As a Yuruba man, it (presidency) should go to the south west.”

He disclosed this while responding to questions from journalists at the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Correspondents Chapel’s correspondents roundtable in Abuja on Monday.

Hon. Lawal however observed that based on merit, the presidency should be zone to the southeast.

He maintained that his opinion on the merit of the zoning of Nigeria’s presidency is personal as it does not represent those of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the House of Representatives.

Lawal’s call for power shift to the south west may be considered a boost to the support base of the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu’s ambition and those of other contestants from the zone.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has already released the time table for the 2023 general elections and only time will reveal the zone that the presidency will move to.
