A presidential aspirant on the platform of a unified coalition in 2023, Prince Adewole Adebayo, on Tuesday visited former military President Ibrahim Babangida in Minna Niger state.

In the meeting, with former head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida, he told his guest that the unity of Nigeria is non-negotiable.

Change of Name

According to General Babangia, no matter the difficulty confronting the country, the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable, should you win the polls.

Speaking to newsmen after consulting with the former Military leader, the frontrunner of 2023 presidential election, Prince Adewole Adebayo disclosed that Babangida told him to ensure that democracy gets better with every election.

According to him, part of the useful advice I got from IBB on my ambition, “he also told me to continue praying and be hardworking.

He said the former President advised him to use the lesson of the past to shape the future.

“He reminded me that I am going to be President of the future not the president of the past. The only time you look at the past is to ensure that the mistakes of the past do not repeat itself.

“He also told me and I also agreed with him. He reminded me that however talented, wise or blessed you maybe, you must make a mistake because you are human. That I should make sure that I minimize my mistakes, acknowledged them when I make them and learn from them.

“That my contributions to democracy we are having now is to see that when we conduct our election it should be better than any one we have in the future so that our glory we not be in the past but our future.”

The aspirant who said he visited to consult with Babangida described him as a man who had played fatherly role in his life for many years.

“I also came to seek his supports, blessings and advice for my quest to be the president.

“He has served in that office for eight years. He laid many foundations. I live in Abuja that he created.

He also acknowledged the many challenges that he had, that he struggled with.
“The issue of democracy, getting people involved in decision making are what we are struggling with today. I thought I should come to him to hear from him. This is not the first I have to seek his advice.

“What he said to me have been very impactful. He reminded me that we should not negotiate the unity of this country despite any difficulty we face.

“He also advised me that if I must succeed as president of Nigeria I must practice a mini Nigeria every time even in my house. That even in your domestic, when someone looks around he must see a mini Nigeria setting there.

“Even in your thinking, when you are alone, you must think panoramically, not a sector of it. You must take advice from all parts of the country.

“He also reminded me the role of the diaspora that in his government he took Nigeria all over the world

“He advised me that I should be prayerful and that Nigeria is a place you need to think ahead and you need to work very hard because Nigeria has many talented people and if you want to be number one you must go extra mile,” he said.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

Ex-Senator and former Minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe, reacting to sexual harassment allegation claimed that the beauty of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, remains a huge challenge to her in her political career.

He said men will find it difficult to ignore her presence anywhere she finds herself.

Change of Name

Ogunlewe stated this while featuring on Arise Television on Monday, remarking that female Senators do no always feel inferior to their male counterpart and often assert themselves in political discussions.

The former lawmaker in the Senate stated that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s physical appearance sets her apart in a way that affects how men relate to her, a fact she must realise.

“The female Senators did not look at themselves as if they were inferior to men. They were even up to the task. If you even mention that Itadewa is a woman, the response you are going to get will make you ashamed of yourself because they will stand up to you,” he said.

Referring specifically to Akpoti-Uduaghan, he added, “But the beauty of Distinguished Senator Natasha is a problem to her.

When asked, “How can beauty be a problem?”

He said, “You know, men—when somebody who is pretty passes by you, your attitude will change. You can smile, you can wink, but you may not talk to her. But her beauty is a problem, there’s no doubt about that.”

When pressed further on how beauty could be an issue, Ogunlewe responded, “To men, when she’s passing, there’s no way a man will not look at that woman.”

He defended his stance by stating that it is natural for men to notice attractive women, adding, “It is a natural thing for a man to look at beautiful women. How can you be a man, and a beautiful woman is passing, and you close your eyes?”

Despite being questioned on whether his views were misogynistic, Ogunlewe insisted that his observations were based on natural human tendencies.

“It may be, you might term it that way, but it is inbuilt,” he said.

BREAKING: Wike’s ally, Sam Anyanwu loses bid at Supreme Court to stop removal as PDP Secretary

Nigeria’s Supreme Court Monday dismissed an application filed by Nyesom Wike’s ally, Samuel Anyanwu who sought for stay of execution of the Court of Appeal that earlier removed him as the National Secretary of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Feeling that the judgment was going to turn against Anyanwu, his legal team opted for withdrawal of the appeal and the apex Court finally struck out the case.

Change of Name

Justice Musa Awani Aba-Aji who presided over the matter dismissed the aapplication after a request from Kingsley Njemanze, SAN, who represented Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

This means that the concurrent of the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal removing Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party have been upheld.
.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court’s five-man panel, led by Justice Aba-Aji, is continuing with the substantive hearing on the case.

The Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, had in December 2024 affirmed the Federal High Court’s decision, which declared Chief Sunday Ude-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary of the PDP.

In its lead judgment, delivered by Justice Ridwan Abdullahi, the appellate court ruled that Anyanwu’s appeal lacked merit, emphasizing that he had violated the PDP constitution by simultaneously claiming the national secretary position while contesting as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2024 Imo State election.

Following his removal by the lower courts, Anyanwu had approached the Supreme Court in February, urging it to overturn the judgments and recognize him as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP.

He also filed motions for accelerated hearing and an abridgment of time, citing the crucial role of the office in the party’s leadership.

It’s disrespectful to invite us for meeting through social media – Pro-Wike to Governor Fubara

The Pro-Wike lawmakers led by the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule described invitation of lawmakers for meeting by the governor through social media as a disrespect for the state legislators.

The group said the proposed meeting with the governor which was scheduled for Monday should have been properly channelled, even as the group claimed that they heard of the meeting through social media.

Change of Name

The reaction followed a letter of invitation issued by the Rivers State Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr Tammy Danagogo on Sunday for a meeting with the governor at the Government House, on Monday (today).

According to the contents of the letter, the meeting scheduled for 10.00am was expected to address key issues, including the provision of sitting space for the Assembly, payment of outstanding allowances, and the presentation of the 2025 budget.

CAPITAL POST could not confirm if the 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the former governor, Nyesom Wike, will honour the meeting, sice they have set a condition for the governor.

One of the lawmakers, Isaiah Opuende who represents Akuku-Toru Constituency 2, condemned Fubara’s choice of inviting them through the social media.

Making mockery of Governor Fubara, Opuende wondered why the governor would invite them for a meeting after he has severally told them to “dey their dey.”

He stated, “It is time for us to determine our dey. When the ‘dey your dey’ started, our principal said the time for our own ‘dey your dey’ will come. Now, our ‘dey your dey’ has come.

“Dey your dey make we dey our dey. How can you wire a letter and post it on social media and expect us to honour it? You know we are not kids. The governor should properly write to the Assembly. That’s all. Thank you.”
