18 bandits travelling to Ondo with 500 weapons arrested, others escaped [Photos]
Operatives of Amotekun, a local vigilante group in the South Western Nigeria on Friday arrested 18 suspected bandits with 500 weapons.
The local security network said the bandits were traveling from Katsina to Ondo State when they were arrested
The bandits were travelling in three hummer buses fully loaded with weapons before one was intercepted in a joint operation with the Nigeria police, while two other buses have escaped.
The Commander of the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye confirmed to newsmen on Friday in Akure that drivers drove dangerously and over ran barricades in attempt to beat being checked
before one of the buses was caught near Ondo town.
The Commander said guns and ammunition concealed inside sacked filled with tiger nuts were recovered while over 500 daggers, cutlasses, swords, and other dangerous weapons were found hidden under the seats of the bus.
The conductor of the bus who did not give his name said the bus was loaded in Katsina State and they were asked to take the passengers comprising one young male to Ondo State.
Speaking on the escaped buses, he said the joint security operatives would trail them and ensure that they were brought to justice.
